Story

Synopsis

In the futuristic metropolis of Stern Bild City, corporate-sponsored superheroes known as NEXT fight crime on live television for points and corporate prestige on Hero TV. Veteran hero Kotetsu T. Kaburagi, known as Wild Tiger, sees his popularity decline following the bankruptcy of his longtime sponsor. His new corporate employer pairs Kotetsu with Barnaby Brooks Jr., an ambitious, calculated rookie hero with identical physical amplification powers. Despite contrasting tactical approaches and clashing personal philosophies, the duo must investigate a sudden series of high-profile thefts committed by a mysterious thief targeting the city's power grid.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Kotetsu and Barnaby discover that the thief is NEXT criminal Robin Baxter, who uses localized gravitational manipulation to disable security systems and loot industrial research facilities. When Baxter hijacks a colossal municipal airship and threatens to crash it into Stern Bild, Kotetsu and Barnaby set aside their mutual irritation. Activating their Hundred Power abilities simultaneously, Kotetsu restrains Baxter while Barnaby lands a crushing finishing kick. The airship is stabilized, saving the city. Although Barnaby maintains his aloof demeanor, he formally acknowledges Kotetsu as his partner, agreeing to wear matching sponsor logos.
