Story

Synopsis

Two years after the events of the first film, Xiaohei has settled into a quiet, peaceful life with his master Wuxian, finally adapting to the human world he once distrusted. That calm shatters when the Spirit Hall comes under sudden attack, dragging Xiaohei and his senior sister Luye into a new investigation full of unsettling mysteries tied to the guild's past. What starts as a rescue mission grows into a deeper reckoning with old secrets, forcing Xiaohei to decide what kind of protector he actually wants to become. It is gorgeous, hand-drawn animation in service of a quiet, emotionally grounded fantasy adventure.

Luo Xiaohei Zhanji 2, released internationally as The Legend of Hei 2, is a Chinese animated film continuing the story from the acclaimed 2019 film The Legend of Luo Xiaohei, and premiered in mainland China in July 2025. The sequel used more than two hundred thousand hand-drawn frames across roughly twenty-four hundred shots, continuing the franchise's reputation for meticulous, painterly animation that helped establish it as one of the standout achievements of modern Chinese animation.
