Desperate for gold and an all-you-can-eat feast, sorceresses Lina Inverse and Naga the White Serpent arrive in the peaceful village of Biaz. The desperate villagers hire the powerful magicians to liberate their community from the Zein Organization, a bizarre extremist syndicate enslaving residents to unearth ancient subterranean ruins. Lured by legends of legendary elven treasure buried beneath the earth, Lina and Naga agree to exterminate the cult. However, when the zealots awaken the Golem of Destruction, an ancient magical superweapon, Lina and Naga find themselves in far greater trouble than their promised mercenary fee was ever worth.

Directed by Hiroshi Watanabe and Kunihiko Yuyama and produced by J.C.Staff, *Slayers Return* was released in Japanese theaters in August 1996. Serving as the second theatrical feature film in Hajime Kanzaka's popular fantasy comedy franchise, the movie solidified the hilarious dynamic between Lina Inverse and Naga the Serpent. Accompanied by Megumi Hayashibara's hit theme song *Just Be Conscious*, the film received widespread praise from anime fans for its irreverent parody of megalomaniacal secret societies, spectacular magical battles, and signature comic timing, cementing *Slayers* as a nineties theatrical powerhouse.
