Story

Synopsis

High school student Mio Miyamasu spends her days wandering around Tokyo's Ikebukuro district, secretly harbor deep romantic feelings for her childhood friend Arata Kishimo. Lacking the self-confidence to speak honestly, she denies her emotions when her friend inquiries about Arata. After a petty misunderstanding sparks a bitter argument between them, Mio rushes out into the pouring rain to apologize and confess her feelings. A traffic accident abruptly plunges Mio into an ethereal liminal dimension suspended between life and death. To return home to Arata, Mio must gather forgotten childhood memories and find her true path.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Digital Network Animation produced this fantasy romantic drama feature film, which premiered in Japanese theaters in November 2020. Marking the feature directorial debut of Yoshinobu Sena, who also authored the original story and screenplay, the film showcased meticulously detailed real-world backgrounds replicating Tokyo's lively Ikebukuro neighborhood. Renowned young actors Honoka Matsumoto and Toshiki Seto provided the lead voice roles, with rock group saji performing the emotional theme song. The film engaged audiences with its poignant reflection on unspoken confessions, emotional hesitation, and youth vulnerability.
