Synopsis

Episode of Nami retells one of One Piece's most heartbreaking early arcs from the navigator's point of view. Nami has been living a double life, secretly serving the cruel fish-man pirate Arlong, who enslaved her village and forced her to draw maps to buy back her people's freedom, a deal he never intended to honor. When her painful past finally surfaces, a tearful Nami reaches her breaking point and calls out for help. Luffy's answer becomes one of the series' defining moments. This special reframes her story of grief, betrayal, and hard-won hope, spotlighting the bond that made Nami a true Straw Hat.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Episode of Nami: Tears of a Navigator and the Bonds of Friends is a One Piece television special produced by Toei Animation and aired in 2012. It repackages the beloved Arlong Park arc, with fresh framing and updated animation, to center Nami's tragic backstory and emotional turning point. Because it summarizes and reshapes canon events, it functions as a retelling rather than new material, though the underlying story is core manga history. These character-focused Episode of specials were made to give longtime fans a concentrated emotional hit and to offer newcomers an accessible way into pivotal arcs. For Nami fans, it is one of the most rewarding of the bunch.
