Synopsis

Ordinary high school student Mahiro Yasaka finds his quiet everyday routine violently overturned when a horrific alien creature ambushes him in the street. Just before he is captured, a lively silver-haired girl wielding a crowbar obliterates the monster. Introducing herself as Nyaruko, she claims to be none other than the cosmic deity Nyarlathotep from Cthulhu mythology, assigned by the planetary defense federation to protect him from galactic slave traffickers. Falling head over heels in love with Mahiro, Nyaruko cheerfully forces herself into his home. Joined by equally chaotic cosmic deities Cthuko and Hasuta, Mahiro endures endless extraterrestrial madness.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from the hit comedy light novel series written by Manta Aisora and illustrated by Koin, *Haiyore! Nyaruko-san* was animated by studio Xebec for television broadcast in spring 2012. Directed by Tsuyoshi Nagasawa, the series became a massive cultural hit in Japan, celebrated for its absurd pop-culture parodies, chaotic tokusatsu references, and memorable musical openings. Xebec delivered bright character animation and lively slapstick timing, turning Lovecraft's cosmic horror mythology into a delightful romantic comedy that inspired sequel seasons, audio dramas, and expansive merchandising lines across Japan.
