Synopsis

A girl with black hair sets out for a night of drinking in Kyoto and keeps walking, moving through a used book fair, a guerrilla theater performance, and a drinking contest with a legendary figure, all in what appears to be a single night that stretches impossibly long. A senior student who has spent months engineering coincidental encounters with her follows several steps behind, never quite managing to say anything. The city bends around both of them, and the film's logic runs entirely on coincidence, alcohol, and the physics of youthful obsession.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Masaaki Yuasa at Science SARU and adapted from Tomihiko Morimi's novel, Night Is Short, Walk on Girl shares a universe with The Tatami Galaxy and carries the same elastic, deliberately unstable visual style. It won major domestic animation awards and earned strong international critical reception for its relentless inventiveness and its refusal to slow down at any point. Yuasa's work is frequently cited as proof that anime can pursue genuine visual experimentation, and this film is among his most accessible and joyful. Its relentless pace and constant visual invention keep it moving from the first minute.
