Synopsis

The final chapter of the Kizumonogatari trilogy pushes Koyomi Araragi's transformation into a vampire to its breaking point, as he confronts the two remaining vampire hunters, the ruthless Dramaturgy and the unnervingly composed Guillotine Cutter, who are determined to finish what they started. Having already lost so much of his humanity chasing this fight, Araragi has to decide just how much more he is willing to sacrifice, and whether Kiss-shot, the vampire he swore to protect, is even worth what it is costing him. It is brutal, philosophical, and visually stunning, closing out one of the Monogatari series' most acclaimed arcs.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Kizumonogatari III: Reiketsu-hen is based on NisiOisiN's light novel prequel to the main Monogatari series, produced by Studio Shaft under director Akiyuki Shinbo and Tatsuya Oishi, released theatrically in Japan in 2017 as the final part of a three-film adaptation. The Kizumonogatari trilogy as a whole is frequently cited by fans and critics as the visual and narrative high point of the entire Monogatari franchise, praised for its striking, painterly animation and for finally dramatizing the pivotal backstory that the rest of the series had spent years referencing. This closing chapter delivers the trilogy's most intense and consequential confrontation.
