Story

Synopsis

High school student Sho Fukamachi stumbles across an enigmatic metallic artifact discarded in a wooded park. When the device activates, it violently bonds with his body, enveloping him in the Guyver, an ancient alien bio-armor endowed with destructive ultrasonic blades and chest-mounted energy cannons. Sho soon discovers that the sinister multinational Chronos Corporation created genetically engineered shapeshifting monsters known as Zoanoids to reclaim the unit. To protect his girlfriend Mizuki Segawa and save humanity from corporate enslavement, Sho must master the lethal extraterrestrial organism while battling ruthless Zoanoid assassins and rival bio-armored combatants.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Studios animate Film and Studio Live produced this visceral fifty-four-minute original video animation adaptation, released theatrically in December 1986. Directed by Hiroshi Watanabe and written by Sanpei Kurihara, the film served as the inaugural animated screen adaptation of Yoshiki Takaya's celebrated dark sci-fi manga *Bio-Booster Armor Guyver*. The production is renowned among vintage anime collectors for its graphic violence, shocking body horror transformations, and creative alterations to the source material, notably introducing the female Guyver 2 combatant Valcuria. The OVA set a dark benchmark for subsequent anime adaptations of Takaya's franchise.
