Story

Synopsis

A mysterious incense called Aizen Kou starts an outbreak of forced infatuation across Kabuki-cho, causing chaos as characters find themselves helplessly drawn to whoever happens to be nearby when the effects hit. Tsukuyo gets caught in the crossfire in a way that finally exposes feelings she'd normally keep buried under her tough exterior, while Tae, Kyuubei, and Kondo all get pulled into their own embarrassing entanglements. The arc mixes broad slapstick comedy with a genuinely tender undercurrent involving Gintoki and Tsukuyo's relationship. The chaos escalates fast, dragging in nearly everyone the show has ever introduced.

Based on Hideaki Sorachi's manga, this arc is one of Gintama's more fondly remembered romantic comedy detours, using its absurd love-potion premise as an excuse to finally let Tsukuyo's feelings for Gintoki come to the surface after years of subtext.
