Story
Synopsis
A thousand years in the future, humanity lives in small pastoral communities where everyone possesses psychokinetic power called Cantus. Saki Watanabe and her friends grow up inside this apparently idyllic society and gradually discover the mechanisms that keep it stable, including what happens to children who develop incorrectly and what the servile bakenezumi actually are. The story spans decades, and each revelation reframes the community's gentleness as something far more disturbing than the children were ever meant to understand. Every answer the story provides makes the previous episodes considerably more disturbing.
