Following the terrifying rampage of Alphamon at Haneda Airport, the DigiDestined take a break from combat to host a welcoming hot spring party for new recruit Meiko Mochizuki and her partner Meicoomon. Meanwhile, preparations begin for the annual Odaiba High School cultural festival. However, academic pressures and personal insecurities cause deep friction among the team. Joe Kido distances himself from the group to focus on university entrance exams, questioning why the DigiDestined must continually shoulder the burden of saving the world. Mimi Tachikawa also faces harsh criticism from classmates who brand her cultural festival ideas self-centered.

A spatial distortion opens during the school festival, and a corrupted Imperialdramon Dragon Mode emerges alongside an enigmatic Digimon Emperor resembling Ken Ichijouji. Just as the team celebrates victory, Meicoomon suddenly undergoes a horrifying feral mutation, brutally snapping Leomon's neck before vanishing through a digital tear into the abyss, leaving the DigiDestined in horror.
