A next-generation virtual reality game traps fifty children inside a Victorian London simulation, where the only way out is solving the Jack the Ripper case and where a single loss means brain death for everyone still playing. Conan enters alongside the other trapped kids, navigating a recreated nineteenth-century city with a rogue artificial intelligence controlling the rules. The film blends historical mystery, virtual reality thriller, and the franchise's usual deduction sequences into one of the more conceptually adventurous entries in the long-running series. Every deduction carries weight when losing means nobody wakes up again.

The sixth Detective Conan film, based on Gosho Aoyama's manga, The Phantom of Baker Street is frequently ranked by fans as one of the best entries in the entire film series, praised for an unusually inventive premise and a genuinely intriguing central mystery. Its virtual reality framing let the production build a fully realized Victorian London, a striking departure from the franchise's usual contemporary Japanese settings. Decades of subsequent films have not displaced it from most fan rankings of the franchise's strongest theatrical outings. Its inventive premise still stands out across the franchise's long film history.
It's about action-packed sleuthing, which this movie does decently at the end ... but fumbles through a painful beginning and poorly paced middle to get there.
