Story
Synopsis
A catastrophic spiritual assault rocks the Seireitei in the Soul Society when an elusive pair of mysterious scythe-wielding siblings unleash a massive parasitic cloud that erases the memories of all Soul Reapers. In Karakura Town, Substitute Soul Reaper Ichigo Kurosaki suddenly discovers that everyone, including Kisuke Urahara, has completely forgotten his existence and that of Rukia Kuchiki. Guided by a faint spiritual bond with Rukia, Ichigo and Kon cross into the Soul Society, only to find the thirteen Court Guard squads viewing Ichigo as a dangerous intruder and attacking him on sight.

Ichigo discovers that the attackers are Homura and Shizuku, orphaned spirits from Rukia's impoverished childhood in the Rukongai who bonded with a parasitic Hollow to erase everyone's memories so they could keep Rukia entirely to themselves. Homura and Shizuku forcibly fuse with Rukia into the dark blade entity Dark Rukia. Ichigo refuses to fight to kill, using his Getsuga Tenshou to shatter the Hollow scythe and free Rukia without injuring her. Restoring her memories with a tearful embrace, Ichigo and Rukia defeat the fading siblings, who pass away peacefully in Rukia's arms.
