Synopsis

In ancient Baghdad, humble water vendor Aladdin falls hopelessly in love with Miriam, a captive maiden being sold at a ruthless slave auction. Risking his life, Aladdin rescues Miriam and shares an idyllic, passionate night with her inside a private mansion. Their brief romance shatters when cruel city authorities arrest them, separating the lovers across the desert. Embarking on a magnificent adventure, Aladdin encounters magical genies, treasure-filled caves, sinister sorcerers, and treacherous sea serpents. Traveling to distant kingdoms, the resourceful wanderer overcomes political coups and perilous temptations to reunite with his cherished lost maiden.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Mushi Production created this groundbreaking 130-minute adult animated fantasy feature, released theatrically by Nippon Herald Films in June 1969. Conceived by manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka and directed by Eiichi Yamamoto, the production was the historic first installment of Tezuka's Animerama trilogy, designed specifically for adult audiences. Renowned rock composer Isao Tomita provided an avant-garde musical score, while artists integrated hand-painted erotica and fluid psychedelic sequences. The film achieved massive commercial success at the Japanese box office, paving the way for artistic experimentation and mature storytelling in commercial Japanese animation.
