Synopsis

Shun Hashimoto came out to his parents and lost them, settling into a life on Okinawa writing novels that have not yet found an audience. Mio Chibana is a high schooler dealing with his mother's death when the two meet on the beach and immediately connect, just before Mio leaves for the mainland. Years later Mio returns with a confession, and both of them have to work out whether what happened between two lonely people once can survive the intervening time. Every conversation between them has to work around years neither can simply erase.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Akiyo Ohashi and produced by Studio Hibari, this fifty-nine minute film adapts Kii Kanna's manga and released in Japan in September 2020. It earned strong reception within the boys' love genre for its restraint and its honest treatment of both internalized shame and grief, avoiding the melodrama common to the category. Its depiction of prejudice through flashback rather than present-tense conflict gave the romance an unusually grounded emotional foundation throughout. Its restraint and honesty about shame set it apart from much of the genre.
