Story

Synopsis

Following a brutal confrontation with powerful enemies, Meng Chuan and his companions travel to Yuanchu Mountain for a new round of trials, with danger at essentially every step of the journey. The Cang Yuan world faces an existential threat as millions of demonic creatures besiege what has become humanity's last real stronghold, and a mysterious figure orchestrating events from the shadows complicates every assumption about who the real enemy is. The stakes shift from personal cultivation to species survival. Every trial on the mountain costs the group something they cannot easily replace.

Adapted from I Eat Tomatoes' novel, The Demon Hunter premiered its second season on Youku in December 2024 with thirty-six episodes. The author is among the most widely adapted writers in Chinese web fiction, also responsible for Swallowed Star and Coiling Dragon, and his works consistently combine martial cultivation with large-scale existential threats. The franchise has built a steady following within the donghua community for its combat animation and its comparatively grim tone relative to lighter cultivation series. Its darker tone distinguishes it from lighter cultivation series in the same category.
