Synopsis
Baked inside Uncle Jam's bakery and animated by a miraculous shooting star, the gentle superhero Anpanman dedicates his existence to helping the hungry and defenseless. Patrolling the countryside with allies Shokupanman and Currypanman, Anpanman frequently offers portions of his own bean-paste head to sustain starving travelers in need. Whenever the wicked germ invader Baikinman schemes to spread chaos, pollution, and spoiled food across the realm, Anpanman springs into action with his signature flying punches. Together with his whimsical food-themed friends, the noble hero demonstrates enduring compassion and selfless courage in every adventure.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Based on the beloved children picture books by author Takashi Yanase, the animated television series premiered on Nippon Television on October 3, 1988, under production by TMS Entertainment. Spanning more than sixteen hundred episodes, annual theatrical feature films, and dedicated museum attractions across Japan, the franchise holds a Guinness World Record for featuring the largest cast of unique animated characters in a single property. Yanase's philosophical message of self-sacrifice and kindness has established Anpanman as Japan's foremost introductory children franchise for multiple generations.
