Synopsis

This animated music video accompanies YOASOBI's breakout track, adapting a short story about a boy who meets a girl standing at the edge of a station platform and the relationship that develops from that encounter. The animation follows their story through stylized, kinetic visuals that carry the song's driving tempo, compressing a full narrative arc into a few minutes without dialogue. It became inseparable from the song itself, giving a piece of music an accompanying visual identity that helped define one of Japan's biggest pop breakthroughs.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Racing into the Night launched YOASOBI, a duo built entirely around the concept of adapting short stories into songs, into enormous mainstream success both in Japan and internationally. Based on a novel posted to the Monogatari platform, the track's structure of turning prose into music became the group's defining creative model. The song's cultural footprint has been substantial, dominating Japanese streaming charts and introducing a global audience to YOASOBI, whose subsequent work has repeatedly appeared as anime opening and ending themes across major franchises. Its animated companion piece remains inseparable from how audiences experience the song.
