Synopsis

The very first One Piece movie sends Luffy and his early crew, Zoro, Nami, and Usopp, chasing a legend: the mountain of gold left behind by the vanished pirate Woonan. Trouble is, the brutal El Drago and his gang want it just as badly. Toss in a runaway boy named Tobio and you have a classic treasure hunt with a clock ticking. It is short, breezy, and unmistakably early One Piece: smaller stakes, simpler animation, but the same beating heart of adventure and freedom. A neat little time capsule from back when the world was still fresh and the crew was still tiny.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
One Piece: The Movie premiered in March 2000, Toei Animation's first theatrical outing for the franchise, arriving less than a year after the TV anime began. It is brief by movie standards (around fifty minutes), a nod to its origin as a kids' film-festival feature. Like every early One Piece movie, it is non-canon and does not connect to the manga storyline. Watch it less for plot importance and more for pure nostalgia: this is where the crew's big-screen journey first set sail, long before the films grew longer, glossier, and far more ambitious. Every legend deserves a humble opening act, and this is One Piece's.
