One Piece: The Movie premiered in March 2000, Toei Animation's first theatrical outing for the franchise, arriving less than a year after the TV anime began. It is brief by movie standards (around fifty minutes), a nod to its origin as a kids' film-festival feature. Like every early One Piece movie, it is non-canon and does not connect to the manga storyline. Watch it less for plot importance and more for pure nostalgia: this is where the crew's big-screen journey first set sail, long before the films grew longer, glossier, and far more ambitious.
