Synopsis

Glorious Island is a short special that drops in just before the events of One Piece Film: Z. It opens with the post-timeskip Straw Hats enjoying a lazy, sunny day at sea, until a giant sea horse crashes the peace. After the crew handles the beast, they settle in for a classic Straw Hat party while Sanji cooks up the spoils. It is light, warm, and low-stakes on purpose: a chance to just hang out with the full crew before the drama of Film Z arrives. Consider it the calm, cheerful appetizer served right before the movie's much heavier main event.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Glorious Island was written by series creator Eiichiro Oda himself and released around late 2012 as a prequel to One Piece Film: Z. Interestingly, it debuted as a smartphone-exclusive special, split into parts, before later being bundled with Film Z on home video. That mobile-first rollout made it a novel little treat for fans at the time. As a supplementary special it sits outside the main manga continuity, but its direct tie-in to Film Z gives it more purpose than the average promo short: it literally leads into the movie's opening, ending the moment the mysterious former admiral Z is discovered adrift in the sea.
