Story

Synopsis

This series tells the story behind Char Aznable and his sister Sayla, born Casval and Artesia Deikun, whose father's assassination sets them on paths that will eventually define the One Year War. Following the political maneuvering, exile, and personal betrayals of their childhood, it explains how a boy from a prominent Spacenoid family became the masked ace pilot known across the colonies. The narrative also covers the war's early days from angles the original series never showed, filling in the political architecture behind a conflict fans have known the outcome of for decades.

Adapted from Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's manga, which retells and expands the original Mobile Suit Gundam, The Origin was produced by Sunrise as a high-budget OVA series with markedly more detailed animation than the 1979 original could afford.
