The second theatrical compilation of the seminal mecha franchise follows the Federation assault ship White Base as it crosses Eurasia toward the headquarters in Jaburo. Young pilot Amuro Ray suffers from severe combat fatigue and emotional alienation, briefly deserting with the RX-78-2 Gundam before returning to face seasoned Principality of Zeon commander Ramba Ral and his Gouf mobile suit. As the Earth Federation launches Operation Odessa to liberate crucial mining territories, the teenage crew of White Base is forged into battle-hardened soldiers through relentless skirmishes, tragic romantic losses, and the unforgiving cruelty of armed conflict.

The film chronicles the emotional devastation that shapes Amuro's emerging Newtype consciousness. Veteran commander Ramba Ral commits suicide with a hand grenade inside White Base's bridge rather than surrender, while his grieving partner Crowley Hamon attempts to ram the warship, only for brave pilot Ryu Jose to sacrifice his life in a Core Fighter ramming attack to save his crew. Furthermore, spy Miharu Ratokie falls to her death during an aerial dogfight, leaving Kai Shiden devastated. White Base successfully reaches Jaburo, but the crew realizes victory comes at the cost of their youthful innocence.
