Story

Synopsis

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji stumble across a plaque marking the abandoned Yi City while chasing leads on a mysterious severed arm tied to dark cultivation. What starts as a ghost-town investigation spirals into something much larger: a conspiracy reaching all the way to Jin Guangyao, chief cultivator of the powerful Lanling Jin Sect. As the two dig deeper into buried history, old allies start doubting Wei Wuxian's motives all over again, forcing him to fight not just supernatural threats but his own reputation as the world's most feared demonic cultivator.

Mo Dao Zu Shi: Wanjie Pian is the third season of the donghua adaptation of MoXiang TongXiu's novel Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, produced by B.CMay Pictures, and aired from August to October 2021. The franchise is one of the most internationally successful Chinese web novel adaptations, also spawning the acclaimed live-action drama The Untamed, and this season continued the story's blend of mystery, cultivation fantasy, and political intrigue. It was praised for tightening the show's plotting around the Yi City mystery while deepening the moral complexity surrounding its protagonist's controversial past.
