Story

Synopsis

Es wakes in a strange prison with no memory of who they are and a talking rabbit named Jackalope on their lap, who explains that they are now a guard responsible for ten inmates. All ten are murderers, though nothing about them looks it, and Es must review music videos extracted directly from each prisoner's mind to learn their crimes and motivations before deciding whether to forgive them. The songs are the evidence, and the judgment carries consequences for everyone involved. Every song reframes a crime the previous one appeared to have explained.

Created by DECO*27 and Takuya Yamanaka and managed by OTOIRO, MILGRAM launched in April 2020 as an interactive music project rather than a conventional anime. Each prisoner's music video is released individually, after which real audience voting on the official website determines whether that character is forgiven, and those results directly shape subsequent videos. That participatory structure, which makes viewers genuinely complicit in the outcomes, gave the project a distinctive hook and a highly engaged international fanbase. Its ongoing structure has kept the project active across multiple voting cycles.
