Synopsis

Goro Shigeno grows up idolizing his father, a professional baseball player, and when tragedy takes that away he channels everything into the sport with a single-mindedness that would be alarming in someone twice his age. This first season follows him from early childhood through his earliest competitive baseball, establishing the relationships, rivalries, and stubbornness that will define his entire career. The story treats a child's grief seriously and refuses to resolve it, letting it drive him instead across decades of narrative. Every early setback shapes the pitcher he will spend decades becoming.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Based on Takuya Mitsuda's long-running manga, Major is one of the most enduring baseball franchises in anime, spanning six television seasons plus films and OVAs and following its protagonist from childhood through international professional play. That career-length structure is genuinely rare in sports anime and allows the series to address aging, injury, and long-term consequence in ways single-season sports stories cannot. It remains a standard recommendation for viewers wanting sports storytelling built on a full life rather than a single tournament. Its long-form structure allows genuine consequence to accumulate over years.
