Story

Synopsis

In the year 2100, newly constructed Bayside City serves as Japan bustling premier international maritime harbor. To combat rampant organized terrorism and urban crime, former law enforcement officer Takako establishes Angel Arms, an elite private security corporation utilizing powered exoskeleton Landmate combat suits. Crisis erupts when the city mayor is assassinated, forcing the four skilled women of Angel Arms to protect an underworld arms merchant named Hassan to bust a global syndicate. Complications arise when operative Alisa discovers the ruthless mercenary mastermind leading the terrorist assault is her former lover.

Directed by Katsuhiko Nishijima with mecha designs and story concepts provided by *Ghost in the Shell* creator Masamune Shirow, this 1999 sci-fi action film was produced by Studio Junio. The production achieved notoriety in anime history when catastrophic production delays resulted in incomplete work-in-progress reels being screened theatrically in Japanese cinemas. The studio later apologized to moviegoers and completed all animated cuts for its home video release, transforming the film into a notorious animation industry legend.
