Synopsis

A murder in Kyoto connects to a Genji-era historical mystery and a riddle involving temples across the ancient capital, drawing Conan and Heiji Hattori into a case rooted in centuries-old history. Heiji's own past surfaces alongside, including a childhood encounter he has never resolved, and Kazuha's relationship with him complicates the investigation in ways neither will discuss. The Kyoto setting gives the film unusually strong atmosphere, with the puzzle built directly into the city's geography. Every clue is embedded in the city itself rather than in any individual suspect.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
The seventh Detective Conan film, based on Gosho Aoyama's manga, Crossroad in the Ancient Capital is well regarded among fans for its Kyoto setting and for giving Heiji Hattori substantial personal material rather than treating him purely as a deductive counterpart. The annual Conan film series has run for decades as one of the most commercially dependable fixtures in Japanese cinema, and entries with strong regional settings consistently rank highly with longtime viewers. Its regional setting gives the film considerably stronger atmosphere than most entries.
