Synopsis

This animated music video accompanies Minami's track, which served as the opening theme for Domestic Girlfriend, and channels the song's raw emotional intensity through frantic, expressive visuals. Rather than telling a conventional story, it works in impressions and fragments, matching the vocal performance's sense of barely contained desperation with animation that refuses to sit still. In roughly four minutes it delivers a mood rather than a plot, which turns out to be exactly the right approach for material this emotionally overloaded. The result feels less like a promotional video and more like a complete emotional statement.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Animated by Asao Urata and released in early 2019, Crying for Rain became one of the more widely shared anime music videos of its period, spreading well beyond the audience of the series whose theme it provided. Minami's vocal delivery and the track's distinctive structure made it a fixture of anime music playlists and instrumental cover culture, particularly among pianists. The video demonstrates how animated music pieces can build cultural staying power independent of their original promotional purpose, becoming beloved works in their own right.
