Synopsis

Tsutomu Senkawa is an ordinary high school student until he is accidentally killed by Birdy Cephon Altera, a Federation officer pursuing a criminal on Earth. As a temporary fix, Birdy houses his consciousness in her own body, which means the two now share a single physical form and swap control depending on circumstances. Tsutomu has to explain his sudden absences, Birdy has to attend school, and both of them have to keep an interstellar investigation quiet while sharing every waking moment. Every ordinary school day becomes a logistical problem neither of them planned for.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Adapted from Masami Yuuki's manga by A-1 Pictures, Birdy the Mighty: Decode remakes an earlier OVA with a considerably expanded story and modern production values. Yuuki is also the creator of Patlabor, and the series shares that work's interest in institutional procedure alongside its action. The adaptation earned attention for unusually fluid combat animation, particularly in its second season, and it remains a well-regarded if somewhat overlooked entry in the science fiction action category. Its second season's combat animation in particular is widely praised by viewers.
