Synopsis

Togashi has always been the fastest kid in the room, treating speed as a settled fact about himself rather than something he chose. Then Komiya transfers in, an unremarkable runner with an unreasonable amount of determination, and Togashi decides to help him train. Years later the two meet again as serious competitors, and the question of who is actually faster becomes tangled up with much harder questions about identity, pressure, and what a person is when the one thing that defined them stops being guaranteed. The race itself is almost beside the point.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Kenji Iwaisawa with animation by Rock 'n' Roll Mountain, and adapted from Uoto's manga, 100 Meters premiered at Annecy in June 2025 before its Japanese theatrical release that September and a global Netflix debut at the end of the year. Tori Matsuzaka and Shota Sometani voice the two leads. The film was widely received less as a conventional sports story and more as an existential character study that happens to be built around sprinting, earning praise for its distinctive visual approach and its refusal to deliver an easy competitive payoff.
