About the studio
Victor Entertainment's music business dates back to 1928, originally operating as a division of the Victor Company of Japan (JVC), before spinning off as its own subsidiary, Victor Musical Industries, in April 1972. Based in Tokyo and a subsidiary of JVCKenwood, the label handles anime music production and distribution, including work on soundtracks like The Big O. *Nearly a century connected to one of Japan's biggest electronics companies, and it's still making music.* The company briefly operated as JVCKenwood Victor Entertainment starting in 2014 before reverting to its more familiar Victor Entertainment name in 2024. Given its long history inside a major electronics conglomerate, Victor Entertainment represents one of the more institutionally stable record labels in the anime music space, backed by decades of corporate infrastructure most independent labels simply don't have access to.
