About the studio
Tezuka Productions was founded January 23, 1968 by Osamu Tezuka, widely regarded as the god of manga, as a spinoff from Mushi Production (which he'd also founded) dedicated specifically to manga production and copyright management. Based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, the studio continues to produce and manage Tezuka's own catalog: Astro Boy, Black Jack, Kimba the White Lion, and Phoenix. *A studio built specifically to protect and continue one creator's legacy, which is a genuinely different mission from most anime companies.* Unlike studios chasing new IP or adapting other creators' work, Tezuka Productions exists in large part as a caretaker of one man's body of work, decades after his death in 1989. Over 55 years since its founding, it remains a rare example of a studio whose entire identity is built around preserving and continuing a single visionary's creative legacy.
