About the studio
Marvelous Entertainment, now simply Marvelous Inc., was founded June 25, 1997 by Haruki Nakayama, son of then-Sega president Hayao Nakayama, via a management buyout from Sega. Based in Tokyo, it's primarily a video game developer and publisher, known for Harvest Moon (later Story of Seasons) and Rune Factory, but it also produces and publishes anime tied to its game franchises, including Senran Kagura adaptations. *A Sega executive's son buying out part of his father's old company to go make farming games and anime, that's a specific kind of career move.* Marvelous merged with AQ Interactive and Liveware in October 2011 to form Marvelous AQL, simplifying back to Marvelous Inc. in 2014. Nearly three decades in, it's built a business that spans games, anime, and music publishing, another example of how anime funding often runs through companies whose primary business is something else entirely.
