About the studio
Kinema Citrus was founded March 3, 2008 by former staff from Production I.G and Bones, including business directors Muneki Ogasawara, Yuichiro Matsuka, and Masaki Tachibana. Based in Suginami, Tokyo, the studio has built a genuinely striking catalog for a relatively young company: Made in Abyss, The Rising of the Shield Hero, Barakamon, and Black Bullet, along with a 2009 co-production credit on Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 alongside Bones itself. *Founded by people who learned their craft at two of anime's most respected studios, and it shows.* Made in Abyss in particular earned Kinema Citrus a reputation for pairing deceptively cute art styles with genuinely unsettling, high-stakes storytelling. Less than two decades old, Kinema Citrus has already carved out real critical respect, the kind of studio whose name on a project makes fans pay closer attention.
