About the studio
Doga Kobo was founded July 11, 1973 by former Toei Animation staff Hideo Furusawa and Megumu Ishiguro, based in Nerima, Tokyo. For most of its history it operated as a steady, traditional animation studio, before shifting toward the bright, comedic slice-of-life style fans associate with it today, on shows like YuruYuri, Gabriel DropOut, and Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun, along with more recent work on Oshi no Ko. *Fifty years is a long time to spend quietly perfecting comedic timing in animated form.* In July 2024, Kadokawa Corporation acquired Doga Kobo, bringing one of anime's older independent studios under one of its biggest publishing umbrellas. Over five decades since its founding, Doga Kobo has managed the rare trick of staying relevant across multiple distinct eras of anime style, from its traditional roots to its now-signature comedic charm.
