Story

Synopsis

During the ancient Western Han Dynasty, occult phenomena unleash apocalyptic calamities across China, tearing apart the sacred bamboo scrolls of the philosophical masterpiece Huainanzi. To prevent history from falling into utter chaos, brave youth Hong Lie is chosen by ancient sages to retrieve the scattered bamboo slips. Traveling across time into legendary mythological eras, Hong Lie encounters mythical beasts, historical heroes, and cunning sorcerers. Guided by the principles of cosmic balance and philosophical harmony, he solves ancient moral riddles to restore the priceless text.

Jointly produced by CCTV Animation, Beijing TV, Huainan Municipal Publicity Department, and the Animation School of Communication University of China, *Huainanzi Chuanqi* premiered on CCTV Children's Channel in April 2012. Directed by Gao Weihua and Geng Shaobo, the fifty-two-episode epic was the first high-definition animated production from Anhui Province. The series received widespread critical acclaim, winning the prestigious Monkey King Award for Best Serial Animation and the Golden Eagle Award for Television Art.
