Story

Synopsis

Set in 1956 in the secluded mountainous settlement of Yagura Village, ambitious Imperial Blood Bank salaryman Mizuki arrives to secure business ties with the powerful Ryuga clan following the patriarch's death. Soon after his arrival, brutal decapitations and occult murders plague the estate. Mizuki encounters a silver-haired, unnamed warrior from the Ghost Tribe who is desperately searching for his missing pregnant wife. Forming an uneasy investigative alliance, the war-traumatized salaryman and the wandering yokai uncover a grotesque pharmaceutical conspiracy that exploits immortal spiritual beings to fuel post-war Japan's industrial resurrection.

Mizuki and Kitaro's father discover that Patriarch Tokisada Ryuga orchestrated decades of human sacrifices and drained Ghost Tribe blood to synthesize the longevity serum M. Tokisada attempts to possess his grandson's body, unleashing monstrous spirits. Kitaro's father sacrifices his physical vessel to protect Mizuki, leaving behind only his animated eyeball, Medama-Oyaji. Mizuki incinerates the blood factory and executes the patriarch. Suffering amnesia from spiritual trauma, Mizuki later discovers the newborn baby Kitaro clawing out of his deceased mother's grave in the rain, compassionately adopting the infant.
