About the studio
ufotable was founded in October 2000 by Hikaru Kondō along with friends Takuya Nonaka, Satoshi Takahashi, Emi Chiba, Jun Shibata, and Hitoyuki Matsui, starting out as a subcontracting studio before becoming an original production company following 2002's Weiß Kreuz. Based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, with a dedicated Tokushima subsidiary, ufotable has built a reputation for genuinely stunning action animation, on Fate/Zero, the Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel films, and most famously, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. *When ufotable quality becomes shorthand fans use across the entire industry, you've clearly done something right.* The studio's history took a darker turn in 2021, when founder Hikaru Kondō was indicted and convicted for tax evasion. A quarter century in, ufotable's technical reputation remains largely untouched by that scandal, still widely regarded as one of the best pure animation studios working today.
