About the studio
Shin-Ei Animation started life in December 1965 as A Production, founded by Daikichirō Kusube, a former Toei Animation animator who reportedly left to escape Toei's rigid hierarchy. It took the Shin-Ei Animation name on September 9, 1976. Based in Nishitokyo, Tokyo, the studio is behind two of the most beloved, longest-running franchises in anime: Doraemon, airing since 1979, and Crayon Shin-chan, airing since 1992. *Nearly half a century of a robot cat and a mischievous five year old, running practically nonstop.* Shin-Ei began as a subcontractor for Tokyo Movie before growing into a major studio in its own right, and since 2010 it's operated as a fully owned subsidiary of TV Asahi. Few studios anywhere have franchises with this kind of staying power, spanning generations of Japanese kids who grew up on the exact same characters their parents did.
