About the studio
Nippon Columbia has been around since before recorded sound was even common in Japanese homes, founded in 1910 as Nipponophone Co., Ltd. and renamed Nippon Columbia in 1946 after decades of ties to the UK's Columbia Graphophone Company. Based in Minato, Tokyo, it's primarily a record label, and its involvement in anime comes through music and soundtrack releases rather than production itself. *Over a century old and still pressing records, in whatever format that means today.* The company briefly rebranded as Columbia Music Entertainment between 2002 and 2010 before reverting to its more recognizable name. It's not a studio you'll see driving an anime's story, but if a series' soundtrack ends up in your hands on physical media, there's a real chance Nippon Columbia had something to do with getting it there, a quieter kind of longevity than the studios actually drawing the frames.
