NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan has had one of the more elaborate corporate journeys on this list. It traces back to March 1981, when Pioneer Corporation founded LaserDisc Corporation; that became Pioneer LDC in 1989, then Geneon Entertainment in 2003 after Dentsu's acquisition, then Geneon Universal Entertainment Japan in 2008 following a merger with Universal Pictures Japan, and finally NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan in 2013. *Five names in a little over three decades, someone in legal has earned a vacation.* Based in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo, the company has produced and distributed anime including Berserk (2016/2017), Ergo Proxy, and Blood+. Despite the rebrands, its underlying business, financing and distributing anime and home entertainment, has stayed remarkably consistent, proof that a company's name can change constantly while its actual job barely shifts at all.
