About the studio
Nagoya Broadcasting Network, branded Mētele since 2003, was founded September 6, 1961 as Chūkyō Television Broadcasting, taking the Nagoya Broadcasting Network name that same November. Based in Nagoya, Aichi, it began as a founding member of the Nippon News Network in 1966 before switching allegiance to TV Asahi's ANN network in 1973. *Switching entire broadcast networks after seven years is a pretty significant mid-life pivot for a regional station.* Its role in anime is primarily as a regional broadcast affiliate, part of the machinery that gets nationally networked ANN anime, like Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan, onto screens in the Nagoya area specifically. Over 60 years in, Mētele remains one of those essential but rarely discussed regional pieces that make national anime broadcasts actually reach the whole country, not just Tokyo and Osaka.
