About the studio
MediaNet was founded April 1, 1978 under the name SoftX, becoming TV Tokyo MediaNet in October 1999 and shortening to simply MediaNet in August 2004. Based in Tokyo as a subsidiary of TV Tokyo, MediaNet has a genuinely strong anime résumé: Slayers and its sequels, Lost Universe, Kaleido Star, and Pokémon all carry its production and investment involvement. *A TV network's in-house production subsidiary ending up co-credited on Pokémon is a pretty significant flex.* Its close relationship with TV Tokyo gives MediaNet a direct pipeline into one of the networks most associated with anime broadcasting in the first place. Nearly 50 years since its founding under a very different name, MediaNet's evolution mirrors TV Tokyo's own growing investment in anime as a core part of its programming strategy, not just something it airs but something it actively helps fund.
