flying DOG has a name with more history than you'd guess: it traces to a Victor Entertainment rock label active from 1976 to 1980, revived in 1997 as M-serve, and formally renamed FlyingDog in 2007 as a dedicated anime music label. *A rock label from the 70s reincarnated as an anime music powerhouse, that's a plot twist.* Based in Tokyo and part of the Victor Entertainment/JVCKenwood group, flying DOG is behind the music of some genuinely iconic anime: Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Samurai Champloo, and Trigun. If those soundtracks feel unusually good even by anime standards, that's flying DOG's fingerprints. Beyond music production, the label sometimes joins production committees, tying its financial fate to the shows whose scores it releases. Nearly 30 years since its modern revival, flying DOG remains one of the more musically distinctive labels in the anime space.
