About the studio
David Production was founded in September 2007 by Kōji Kajita and Taito Okiura, both formerly of Gonzo, based in Nishitokyo, Tokyo. The name is a nod to David and Goliath, and doubles as a backronym for Design Audio & Visual Illusion Dynamics, which is a genuinely ambitious acronym to build a studio name around. *Naming your studio after the underdog who beats the giant is a bold bit of foreshadowing.* After early subcontracting work, its first primary production was 2009's Ristorante Paradiso, but it's best known today for adapting JoJo's Bizarre Adventure starting in 2012, along with Cells at Work! and Fire Force. Fuji Television acquired David Production as a subsidiary in August 2014. Less than two decades old, the studio has become one of the most recognizable modern names in action anime, built by two people who simply decided to start over after Gonzo.
