About the studio
China Literature Limited formed in March 2015 through the merger of Tencent Literature and Shanda Literature, going public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that November. Its own roots trace back to 2002's Qidian Chinese Website, one of China's earliest major web novel platforms. *A web novel site from 2002 eventually becoming a publicly traded company majority-linked to Tencent, that's a genuinely impressive climb.* Based in China and affiliated with Tencent Holdings, China Literature serves as a major source-IP publisher, with many Chinese web novels published through its platforms, including Qidian and QQ Reading, going on to become donghua adaptations. A decade since its formation, China Literature sits at a similar position in China's animation ecosystem to what Kadokawa or Shueisha occupy in Japan's, a publisher whose catalog quietly fuels a large share of what eventually makes it to screen.
