About the studio
BS Asahi, formally Asahi Satellite Broadcasting Limited, launched December 1, 2000, one of five commercial satellite channels that debuted together that year. Based in Roppongi Hills, Minato, Tokyo, it's part of TV Asahi Holdings, functioning as TV Asahi's satellite counterpart and carrying some anime programming alongside its general lineup. *The satellite sibling pattern again, TV Asahi's version of what BS Fuji and BS NTV are to their own parent networks.* Compared to TV Asahi's own heavily anime-associated terrestrial lineup, which includes Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan through owned studios Shin-Ei Animation and TMS Entertainment, BS Asahi's role is more general entertainment than anime-specific. A quarter century in, BS Asahi remains one of the supporting pieces in TV Asahi's broader broadcast ecosystem rather than a headline anime destination in its own right.
