About the studio
Ashi Productions was founded December 20, 1975 by Toshihiko Sato and a group of fellow artists, based in Suginami, Tokyo, and it became particularly known for magical girl anime, including Magical Princess Minky Momo, Betterman, and Wedding Peach. The studio briefly operated under the name Production Reed starting November 1, 2007, before reverting to Ashi Productions on February 12, 2019. *A rebrand that eventually decided the original name was better after all, which happens more often in this industry than you'd expect.* Fifty years since its founding, Ashi Productions' contribution to the magical girl genre specifically gives it a distinct place in anime history, a studio whose identity is tied closely to one particular, hugely beloved subgenre rather than a broad, varied catalog.
