About the studio
Asahi Broadcasting Corporation, the Osaka one, not to be confused with America's network, began as a radio broadcaster on March 15, 1951, adding television in 1959 through a merger with Osaka Television. Based in Osaka, ABC is the key Kansai-region affiliate of TV Asahi's ANN network, and it broadcasts and co-produces many nationally networked anime for its region, including Crayon Shin-chan, Doraemon, and the Pretty Cure franchise. *A regional broadcaster with over 70 years of history quietly making sure Kansai households get the same anime lineup as Tokyo.* On April 1, 2018, ABC split its radio and TV operations into separate subsidiaries under a holding structure, and its content-production arm eventually spun off into ABC Animation in 2016. Over seven decades since its founding, ABC remains one of the essential regional pillars supporting how anime actually reaches viewers across Japan, not just in the capital.
